Abstract

Abstract—Orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are associated with different mobility and channel conditions. Cross-domain division multiplexing (XDM) provides a coexistence framework by exploiting sparse mapping in the delay-Doppler domain and the resulting repetition structure in the time-frequency domain. This paper presents a MATLAB-based simulation of the single-OTFS-user XDM coexistence chain. The implemented model generates sparse OTFS symbols, applies the inverse symplectic finite Fourier transform (ISFFT), maps OFDM symbols with partial nulling, forms the combined time-frequency grid, and performs waveform-level cross-domain successive interference cancellation (SIC) at the receiver. The simulation is evaluated under an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel using 16-by-16 resource grids, 4-QAM, sparsity factors S1 = S2 = 2, and a cyclic prefix of length four. The simulated bit-error-rate (BER) versus signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) characteristic confirms the expected decrease in BER with increasing SNR. As an extension, an iterative refinement procedure is proposed conceptually to further suppress residual cancellation errors without changing the XDM mapping principle. Numerical implementation of the refinement loop is outside the scope of the present simulation.
