Abstract
Though the practical benefits from applying the Internet of Things (IoTs) devices within cloud computing increases the complexity and size of such systems; but it causes major threats that are related to the issues of security in terms of authentication, data protection, and vulnerabilities. Therefore, this paper conducts the online survey of people who work in the field of security management in cloud services or IoT management to identify the main challenges and solutions as for the security of IoT within the cloud. The results show that the greatest security threat is the absence of proper device authentication. Even though some security mechanisms have been put in place like data encryption and network segregation, regular security breaches indicate that there is a need for better monitoring, threat detection and regular updating of devices. In addition, this gives an illustration of the overall situation where even though companies are generally neutral regarding their level of security in IoT, it appears that there is a need to invest in the same for better security. This clearly highlights the urgent need for better ways of authenticating, proactive threat detection and automation of software updates that are meant to reduce vulnerabilities, hence ensuring that there is better security of IoT in cloud environment.
